April 19, 2010 Is it just me or what is going on out there?!Filed under: ASI Canada When you move you expect a couple of things will go wrong but this time I’m totally frustrated. I’m a fairly organized person and followed my list making sure every detail would be taken care of. There’s phone, cable, utilities, movers a lot of details to arrange – I took a week off in order to ensure everything got done and while from my end I was organized and ready what follows is a comedy of errors. First lets start with the phone company I was outraged by what they charge to move the phone lines and then to add insult to injury their time frame for installation is 8:00 – 5:00pm but for an extra $85.00 you can get two different times 11:00am – 12:00 or 1:00 – 2:00pm. Because I already set up the cable company and selected 2:00 – 5:00 for them I paid the extra $85.00 so that they would come between 1:00 – 2:00pm. On the Friday I was just a little surprised when they showed up at 10:00am and the only reason I was at the house was the furniture the girls had ordered the day before was scheduled for delivery from 9:00am – 4:00pm. So, now I’ve got the lines in and the guy showed me which outlet on the jack is for the phone and which one is for the fax, with him standing there I plug the phone in and yes there is a dial tone, he tells me the lines will be switched over later that day. It’s now 10:30 and I’ve got my whole day left in this empty house and can’t leave because of the new beds the girls ordered but that’s ok I wanted to clean the house from top to bottom while it was still empty (why doesn’t anybody wash the cupboards before they leave a house). Around 3:00 I start to think back to the day before and the argument I had at the store about having to arrange the assembly of the beds with a separate company even though I paid them for the service. So, I call them to see what’s going on with the delivery, after going thru a ridiculous amount of selections on their voice mail system I finally get to speak to a real person. She proceeds to tell me that my delivery is scheduled for between 5 – 9pm and it’s only 3pm, to which I responded I have my receipt and it clearly states 9 – 4pm. I now get a manager on the line and he proceeds to tell me that the 9 – 4 was crossed out and changed to 5 – 9 but I have my original bill I tell him and he then tells me he can see that someone changed the carbon copy in ink (and yes I know who did that – I guess that was payback for losing my temper). Best he can do is put it on the truck for the first delivery after 5pm – I’m not a happy camper but at this point there’s nothing I can do, although I did get the delivery for free but I have to go back to that store to get the credit card charge reversed, why he couldn’t do that from his end is beyond me. So, now I try to call the phone line and it’s still not ringing thru to the house and I think I better call them before they close, after some going back and forth we eventually discover that the phone and fax line are reversed on the jack. Even though I stood there with the guy and plugged the phone into the jack he told me but ok one more problem solved. Right on schedule at 4:30 the cable guy shows up, what baffles me is the cable company doesn’t charge you to move your service and it took their tech about an hour and a half to do the job compared to the 15 minutes the phone guy took. Just as the cable guy is finishing up the furniture arrives and I can call it a day and go home and finish packing!
